Banaue,
a town of Ifugao province, is known around the world for its rice terraces.
The magnificent rice terraces at Banaue in northern Luzon cascade over
an area of 2,560 sq km (100 sq miles). The Ifugao tribespeople, wielding
the simplest of tools, constructed the terraces approximately 2,000 years
ago.Hailed as the eight wonderof the world, the fields are a monument
to primitive powers of technology, having an irrigation system that functions
perfectly despite the steep mountain slopes. The boundary walls, stretched
end to end, would measure 20,000 km (12,428 miles).
